Last weekend my friends and I attended the ninth staged event, of popular North East MMA show Strike & Submit.
Like many domestic shows, the fight card was announced, posters were put out, advertisements were done and tickets were sold.
Usual pattern yes? And everyone is happy right?...... Not really.
For anyone who has been some what involved in the running of an MMA show, you will appreciate this blog. For anyone who hasn't, prepare to be let in on a little secret - running a successful MMA show is HARD WORK! It's not just fighters who go home with a head ache.
Fighter pull outs, injuries, ticket handling, deportations (yes deportations) and last minute replacements all mix together to form one problem after another. This is something many promoters will relate too. Fortunately, good fighters (watch out for future stars Alex Enlund, Martin Scrafton and Alan Love), good managers, good coaches and good people always prevail. Many fans had turned up to see Fighters Only Sponsored welter weight and rising star Pete Irving head the bill. Pete was unable to fight but with a fantastic crowd, great under card and one of the best MC's in the business (Mr Ian Freeman) this show turned out to be one of its most successful to date.
