It is all over: The Cyborgs announce separation
February 7th 2012

MMA’s most frightening power-couple have parted ways after six years of marriage.

The Cyborgs - aka Cris and Evangelista - have formally announced their separation. The news was revealed by former Strikeforce women's featherweight champion Cris via a post on Brazilian sports forum UOL.

“After six years of dedication to love and to happiness of marriage, I would like to inform [everyone] that since December of 2011, Evangelista Cyborg and I are living our lives separately,” she wrote.

“I'd like to thank all friends for words of support during this period. No matter how hard it feels never give up on your dreams and never give up in love!“

The news - albeit relating to a split already a month old - compounds Cris’ current woes. She was stripped of her title earlier this year when a drug test she took in her most recent Strikeforce fight revealed traces of steroids.

She has been suspended for the duration of 2012 by the California State Athletic Commission and when she was stripped of the belt, UFC president Dana White - who has a controlling hand in Strikeforce since the Zuffa buyout - openly stated that the future of that women’s division is now in doubt.

As for Mr Cyborg, he has lost his last two bouts by way of submission (Nick Diaz) and TKO (Jordan Mein) respectively. He is 2-2 in his last four and 2-4 in his last six.

There is no news of any upcoming bout for him, although he was at one time last year matched with Paul Daley before an injury pulled him out, so Strikeforce matchmakers may want to revisit that this year.
