It is finally happening - Jon Jones and Rashad Evans are confirmed for the headline slot of UFC 145.
They will headline the Atlanta, Georgia event on April 21st with the light-heavyweight title on the line, bringing a long grudge to fruition at last.
The fight was confirmed to Fighters Only by one fighter’s management last night and official confirmation came via the UFC some hours later.
Bad blood has simmered between the pair ever since Jones leapfrogged an injured Evans into a title shot and won, making himself the light-heavyweight champion and prompting Evans to leave the Greg Jackson camp.
Previous meetings between the pair fell through because of injuries - or claimed injuries - to one or the other at various times, which meant the match became one fans were dying to see but repeatedly had taken away from them.
Evans has been a perennial contender and was in pole position for a shot, electing to sit out and wait for Mauricio ’Shogun’ Rua to return from injury rather than take another fight and lose risking his position. But then he suffered an injury in training and had to sit out while Jones took the March fight with Rua and won.
Jones has since defended the belt twice, taking an RNC win over Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and then choking Lyoto Machida out on December 10th to go 4-0 in 2011 and 15-1 overall. His sole loss is by way of disqualification for an illegal elbow on Matt Hamill in 2009.
As for Evans, he has gone 4-0 since losing the title to Lyoto Machida in May 2009, but he had over a year out from May 2010 to August 2011, when he finished Tito Ortiz at UFC 133. He followed that with a win over Phil Davis earlier this month to finally get into position for his title shot against former team mate Jones.

"Jones has since defended the belt twice, taking a clear decision win over Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson"
Didn't he tap out Rampage with a RNC?
