Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit are to rematch immediately, before either will face any other opponent.
The news has been confirmed by UFC president Dana White, who said Condit gave his assent to the rematch on Tuesday despite previous comments from his manager specifically stating that a rematch was not of interest.

Fans clamoured for a rematch after Saturday night’s fight between the pair ended in a controversial decision for Condit, who spent the entire fight moving backwards. He did land more strikes than Diaz, but many were not especially powerful and Diaz was able to walk through them.
The win earned him the UFC interim welterweight title and supposedly a showdown with Georges St. Pierre later in the year for a crack at the unified title but it was clear that UFC executives were also disappointed in the fight and wanted to see a rematch as well.
Whether that was because the fight was not the barnburner it could have been or because they wanted to see Diaz win to set up a big-selling pay per view is unclear - possibly both - but Condit has seemingly been incentivised enough to give assent to a rematch he initially didn’t want to have.
Diaz has also given assent which of course means his ‘retirement’ speech in the Octagon post-fight was simply emotion, and also means that comments made by his coach Cesar Gracie this week (claiming Diaz could be out of action until 2013) are untrue.
It was initially rumoured that the fight has been pencilled in for the fourth ‘UFC on FOX’ show - which takes place on August 4th in Los Angeles, California - which would potentially introduce both fighters to a wider audience and boost sales for the follow on PPV fight against Georges St. Pierre. However, nothing has been decided for definite at this stage.

This is BS. If Diaz wins, does Condit get an instant rematch? I doubt it.
The only rematch I agreed with was Shogun v Machida, the BJ Penn v Edgar rematch was a disgrace as is granting Diaz another chance v Condit.
Where is Bispings rematch with Sonnen? Maybe if Bisping would have whinged like a bitch the way Diaz did, he may have been in with a chance of a rematch. UFC descisions are starting to look fixed these days to enable the 'bigger' fights to get more bums on seats and more PPVs - UFC is gonna look as corrupt as the Premier League soon.

condit fought a great fight! if i remember correctly for a brief moment in the 3rd round, diaz doesnt move forward and condit smacks him some! then diaz realised he will have to keep coming forward because if he stands still condit is gonna outbox him!
close fight, but condit won fair and square!

Glad other people saw the same fight i did,Condit won. This decision is B.S.I'm losing faith in the UFC,if Diaz had the octagon control a lot of people think he had then Condit would not have been able to circle out!Diaz is a game fighter but should just get on with it,if Condit beats GSP then they can sell the rematch..!!

I totally agree with all the above posts. Condit won a deserved decision and where was Bispings rematch? I just hope Dana White takes the time to read posts like this and get a flavour of what the real fight fan wants. Poor decision by the UFC.

Yes Condit agreed to the rematch, but apparently Nick hasn't agreed to it. Caesar said Nick won't be taking the fight because of an issue that arose.

you must know more than Dana and everyone else at the UFC.. Dana via tweet said Nick wanted a rematch that night??i dont think for one minute Caesar would stand in the way of that fight..if Diaz turned the rematch down well...he sends the message to everyone that he's running scared..The fight everyone wants to see is Diaz v GSP and theres too much money involved for that not to happen!

Yet again the UFC dont give the title shot to the guy that deserves it. The fight was billed as the winner gets GSP.. If Diaz had won would we be seeing this rematch? UFC are hungry for the PPV money GSP v Diaz would bring in... Conduit deserves the shot, give it to him and stop trying to make a fool out of people. Carlos wants to be champion and that means fighting GSP he has nothing to prove against Diaz, he beat him already fair and square!
