Glover Teixeira is the UFC’s newest light-heavyweight and will debut for the American organisation in May at UFC 146.
Speaking to Sportv.com from the United States, Glover said he lands in Brazil on March 3 to start the training camp for what will be the biggest fight of his career.
“During my stay in the United States I visited my old team ‘The Pit’, trained with them and it was great. I spoke with John Hackleman, said that my camp in Brazil is very good, and he supported me to do the work in [Refinaria] Manguinho. He will likely come [to Brazil] for the final stage of the trainings,” he said.
Teixeira tried to keep the deal secret at the request of UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, but his former partner Chuck Liddell broke the news anyway.
“Chuck is a big friend and he was very important to help in this negotiation. They [UFC] asked me not to say anything yet since the contract for this fight hasn’t arrived, only the one with the event. But he ended up stalking and... ah, nobody fights with him, right?” he laughed.
Teixeira has been dealing with visa issues that until now prevented him signing with the UFC, but his problems are over thanks to receiving a ten-year green card visa for the United States, fulfilling another dearly held dream of his.
Sporting a 17-2 record, Teixeira is 32 years old and on a 15-fight winning run. His last two wins were over Marvin Eastman and Ricco Rodriguez respectively.
