Nate Diaz says his brother Nick is keeping busy during his hiatus from UFC.
Nick, the elder of the two, was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after his decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143. This came despite the fact that Nick had already announced his retirement from MMA.
UFC president Dana White stated at the time that he believed Nick would be back, but Nate doesn't think his brother's mind is on competing for the time being.
"The way things have been going since forever, I don’t think he’s interested. He’s not interested in fighting, but who knows what’s going to happen in the future?
"Most people retire but they don’t got s**t to do. They’re going to get fat, they’re going to get bored, they’re going to sit at home. Nick’s competing in a jiu-jitsu tournament next weekend. He just did four triathlons in the last two months, and he’s having fun, man. Staying busy."
Nick has been in training for a jiu-jitsu superfight with Braulio Estima, set to take place at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo on May 12th in Lon Beach, California. He's also been helping his younger brother train for this weekend's UFC on FOX 3 event.
Nate will be headlining the card against Jim Miller at the Izod Center in New Jersey. It's unknown whether Nick will be in attendance, but if Nate gets the win it'll likely be cause for a family celebration: a shot at the UFC lightweight championship is expected to follow.
