With yesterday’s news that UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has suffered an ACL injury and will be out of action for at least six months, his UFC 148 fight with TUF Live opponent Urijah Faber is off.
Cruz hasn’t fought since October 2011 and by the time his recovery and rehab time is factored in, it will likely be over a year from that date until his next fight. So Faber has already began campaigning for the UFC to institute an interim bantamweight title and have he and Renan Barao - or some other candidate - fight for it, then match Cruz on his return.
“I'm thinking an interim title fight… I'm hoping for a top contender: Renan Barao, in my opinion is next up with Michael McDonald after that and Ivan Menjivar after that. I'm just waiting to see,” he says in this video blog.
“I know as much as you guys do, but I'm ready to scrap on July 7. And, as far as I'm concerned, that's when it's going down.”
