Urijah Faber’s next opponent will be revealed tomorrow.
Faber had been due to fight rival TUF: Live coach Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title in July, but Cruz has suffered a knee ligament injury and will now be sidelined for some time.
While Cruz will finish out his time as coach, he won’t be able to fight Faber as scheduled and so a new fighter is being brought in to take his place - with an interim title on the line.
Tomorrow night’s episode - the 11th in the series - features two quarterfinal fights. The winners of those will face the winners of last week’s quarterfinals next week.
The show will also feature an appearance from UFC president Dana White, who will be announcing Faber’s new opponent.
The Brazilian dynamo Renan Barao is widely expected to be the name that White announces, given the winning run he is on and the impression he has made on fans since joining the UFC.
Outside contenders include Michael MacDonald, on an 8-0 run with five wins in Zuffa promotions and coming off a win over former champion Miguel Torres, and Britain’s own Brad Pickett, but his own loss to Barao last year might preclude that.
