On Saturday, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua will step into the Octagon to face off Brandon Vera at UFC on Fox 4 - but at the back of his mind is a rematch against the fighter who took the light-heavyweight belt from him last year.
“This is the fight I am looking for. I want the belt back. I believe that now it is easier to study Jon Jones. When we met for the first time, he was a breaking news, now we already saw him versus other guys and we have an ideal of which things he can do inside the Octagon. I have been working to beat him in a revenge," he said in an online chat with Brazilian fans.
Mauricio was also questioned about fighting middleweights Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen and he didn't shy away from the answers saying he would take both athletes on.
"[Chael] speaks so much. Fighting him would be a pleasure for me. I respect him as a fighter but he does have a too much big mouth. I would like to face Anderson. He is the best of all times but I only would take him as a light-heavyweight. I can't drop to the middleweight division,” he said.
The native of Curitiba also commented the possible retirement of former team and long time friend Wanderlei Silva, with whom he trained at Chute Boxe.
“I respect him a lot. This is a very personal decision for him and anything he decides, I will support him totally. I was in his corner in the fight versus Rich Franklin and he almost won by knockout in the second round. He showed he still can fight at a high level,” said Shogun.
