Dennis Hallman is likely to be facing the axe from the UFC roster after his fight with Thiago Tavares was axed from tomorrow night’s UFC on FX card due to him missing weight.
Hallman was seven pounds over the upper limit and was told that Tavares would take the fight if he came within three pounds of the limit. Hallman claims he got within 2.5lbs of the limit but that the fight was then pulled for “personal reasons”.
It isn’t the first time that Hallman has missed weight and the UFC takes a hard line with that, especially if it causes a fight to be pulled from an event completely. Hallman missed weight in the fight before last and in the fight before that caused controversy with his in-cage attire so UFC bosses are unlikely to be lenient.
Tavares made weight first time and so will be paid his show money for the fight despite it being cancelled.
In the main event Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will enjoy a 20 lbs weight advantage when he collides with 6ft 7inch heavyweight Travis Browne tomorrow night on the stacked UFC on FX card from the Target Center, Minneapolis.
The 6ft 4inch “Bigfoot” used every available pound, hitting the uppermost heavyweight limit of 266 lbs for tomorrow’s five round main event against the undefeated Browne, who scaled 246 lbs. The two goliaths then locked eyes for several intense moments before vowing to win inside the distance tomorrow.
“His size doesn’t matter, I’m a big guy too,” said Browne. “I’ve got to go out there and give my best - because if I do that I know I can finish this fight impressively.”
“I’m ready,” said Silva. “I’m ready to show the entire UFC what I can really do and this fight won’t go more than two rounds.”
The four-fight UFC on FX card will be broadcast live on FX this Friday at 8pm ET/PT, with preliminary fights airing live on FUEL from 5pm ET/2pm PT. A new episode of the Ultimate Fighter will air immediately following UFC on FX.
