A lot of fans were surprised when Vinny Magalhaes didn’t get the Submission of the Night award when he arm-barred Igor Pokrajac at UFC 152.
The fight was Magalhaes’ return to the UFC light-heavyweight division following a sojourn in M-1 and elsewhere, and the submission was exactly the level you would expect from such a world-class BJJ competitor.
But the Submission of the Night bonus instead went to Jon Jones, who submitted Vitor Belfort with a kimura in the headline title fight. Magalhaes’ submission was by far the more technical but, as he says, Jones’ was the more important.
And as he reveals in this video, the UFC sent him a cheque in the post anyway…
