Fighters are known to be a crazy bunch, so when Hurricane Sandy descended on New York, it was not surprising to see some of them defy warnings to stay inside.
What was even more unsurprising was that many of them duly ignored sound advice and went out and about. Some of them even went to training as usual, despite the wild storms that are increasing in intensity by the hour.
And for one of them, it turned out pretty nice.
UFC fighter John Cholish, who lives in lower Manhattan, is set to fight Yves Edwards on December 8 at UFC on FOX 5 so any chance he has to sharpen his skills, he makes use of.
It's unlikely that Edwards took a day off from his camp at American Top Team, so with that in mind, Cholish didn't either despite the hurricane.
On Monday, just as the winds picked up and threatened to batter Manhattan, Cholish and a handful of athletes set off to Renzo Gracie's Academy in midtown for a session at a time when many were running for cover.
They weren't disappointed as the Academy was open and they got a workout in under BJJ legend John Danaher - pretty much a private lesson with one of the greatest instructors in jiu jitsu (no surprise that Danaher also ignored advice to stay at home!)
