Fighters Only has just received confirmation that Glover Teixeira has verbally agreed to face former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on 26th January at UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago.
The fight was originally set to take place at UFC 153 but was cancelled when Jackson injured his elbow in training and had to pull out.
Earlier this week Jackson tweeted that the fight would be happening at the upcoming FOX show in January, but there was no confirmation from official sources until now.
The UFC says that verbal agreements are in place and paperwork will be completed shortly to make the bout a contracted lock.
Jackson’s next move after the fight will be interesting - he has repeatedly said he wants to walk away after the fight, the last of his present contract, but he is still a significant draw and the UFC may scramble to hold on to him.
Teixeira joined the UFC two fights ago and is currently a man that nobody wants to fight. Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua turned him down for UFC 153, ostensibly because he is a big threat but doesn’t have a name behind him, and so did several other fighters before Jackson stepped up.
At UFC 153, Jackson’s place was taken by Fabio Maldonado. The late stand-in ended up taking one of the most one-sided beatings in UFC history, before doctors stopped the fight in the interval between the second and third rounds.
