2012 did not end as Junior dos Santos had planned.
Besides splitting up of his wife of ten years, Vilsana Picolli, he was badly defeated by Cain Velasquez at UFC 155 and lost the UFC heavyweight belt. But 'Cigano' wants 2013 to be a whole new stage in his career and personal life.
“I am coming off an unsatisfactory outcome in my last fight and now in 2013 I have to learn from the mistakes I've committed and move on to recover the world championship and become the champion again. Until the end of the year this is my goal,” he told CARAS online.
Dos Santos was almost unrecognizable in the way he lost to Velasquez. After that bout, personal issues came up as an explanation for the poor performance and jiu-jitsu coach Yuri Carlson told TATAME the separation had a huge influence on his loss. But Junior also plans to get his lovable wife back beside him.
"I will be fighting again until the middle of the year, and in the end of the year, I will be with my belt and back with my wife. 2013 is gonna be my year," he said.
Dos Santos split from his wife, who he married at age 18, just a few days before UFC 155 and put a end on their 10-year relationship. It was assumed that he had had his head turned by other girls during his time as UFC champ and had ended the marriage - but it seems that might not be the case after all.
