Dana: Cyborg could "stop using steroids" to lose weight

Dana: Cyborg could
February 13th 2013

Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos is now “irrelevant”, according to UFC president Dana White.

He made the comment in London, England today while holding a scrum with media following the UFC on FUEL 7 pre-event press conference.

White was asked for his thoughts on Cyborg’s claims that she could not drop to 135lbs without endangering her health and her ability to have children in the future.

Snorting derision, White declared it to be “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard” and suggested that Santos “stop taking steroids” if she wants to drop weight.

Santos tested positive for substances indicating steroid use in late 2011 and was suspended by the California Athletic Commission for one year.

Her Strikeforce women’s featherweight championship title was also taken from her, despite her protestations that the failed test was the result of inadvertently ingesting prohibited substances via over-the-counter supplements.

Rousey has been installed as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion following the demise of Strikeforce. She headlines UFC 157 against Liz Carmouche, her first defence of the UFC belt.

She has consistently rubbished Cyborg’s claims that Rousey is “running” from her, saying that the fight is available any time as long as Cyborg can make 135lbs. Rousey sees no need to move up in weight to accommodate her.

The UFC agree, and with no women’s 145lb division in the pipeline it means that Santos is, as White said today, condemned to irrelevancy in the UFC’s eyes. She recently requested release from her contract so she can explore other options.
