Tito Ortiz, manager of Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos, staged a press conference for his client yesterday to announce that she has reached a deal with Invicta.
The pair recently requested and received a release from Santos’ Zuffa contract, allowing them to pursue other deals elsewhere.
Oddly, the UFC had actually offered to allow Santos to fight for Invicta while remaining under contract to Zuffa, but this was apparently undesirable.
Santos had been trying to get a fight with women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey but wanted the 135lb champion to move up to 140lbs.
Rousey and the UFC had no interest in this and had no plans for a 145lb division, leading Santos to being effectively sidelined.
