UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has surprisingly come out in favor of Testosterone Replacement Therapy, the controversial practice which has polarized MMA fans over the last year.
Aldo says that TRT users should not be persecuted. He also tells Tatame that in his opinion there is a lot of hypocrisy prevalent in MMA and specifically accused former heavyweight champion Randy Couture of being a drugs cheat.
“I don’t see the problem with using TRT. Everybody uses [steroids], from the champion to the newcomer,” he said.
I believe we [from Nova Uniao] are the only ones that don’t do that, because Andre (Pederneiras) was always against steroids. I think it’s wrong to criticize someone who came forward and said they take TRT.
“Americans always used [it.] Randy Couture fought until he was 50, and people say he was clean? If the doctors prescribe you and you’re on the limits, OK, I see no problem. If I need that one day, I will use TRT too.”
Aldo recently defended the featherweight title by stopping Chan Sung Jung in the fourth round of their UFC 163 main event contest. He broke his foot in the process and will now be sidelined for some time.
