Coach: "Jacare will go up and take Jon Jones' belt"

September 11th 2013

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza is ready to fight in two weight categories and “will take Jon Jones’ belt”, according to his head coach Josuel Distak.

Souza impressed MMA fans in his last performance by setting aside his jiu-jitsu skills to bring a standing fight to Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night 28, stopping him with a heavy right hand.

Distak, head coach at X-Gym, told Portal do Vale Tudo that ‘Jacare’ is the fighter who is evolving the most in MMA and that UFC has allowed him a stage to show that.

He also said that Jacare’s rise at middleweight could lead to a possible attempt to match him with Anderson Silva, which they wish to avoid as they are friends and team-mates.

“We’re in UFC hands, we’re employees. Jacare is always going a step up. Jacare will fight in two divisions”, the coach said. “Everything will depend on Anderson’s fight with [Chris] Weidman.

“If Anderson wins, we will go up in weight and take Jon Jones’ belt. We will prove to the world we have character and that we don’t fight each other. This is X-Gym’s history. Jacare is ready to fight one weight category up as well as middleweight.”

I think it's great that he's not willing to fight Anderson both being from Brazil but is this guy for real? He beat up Yushin Okami, who at his very best isn't even average.
