Manuwa: "I thought Gustafsson would try and avoid me"

Jimi Manuwa’s fight with Alexander Gustafsson is confirmed for London, England on March 8.

The UFC revealed today that bout agreements for the clash have been signed and completed to make the fight official.

It will headline UFC Fight Night London: Gustaffson vs. Manuwa at the 02 Arena in England’s capital city.

“Alex is a huge test for me, but it is one I have long dreamed of. I’m ready to take this opportunity to climb up the light-heavyweight ladder and get closer to my goal of being a UFC champion,” says Manuwa

“I asked for this fight and thought Alex would avoid me, but he is a true professional and I have great respect for him.”

The bookmakers are expecting Gustafsson to take the win and move into another title shot against the winner of the upcoming Jon Jones/Glover Teixeira fight, but Manuwa sees it differently. He also thinks that recent trends weigh in his favor.

“[Alex] knows my record and he knows how unpredictable every fight can be in the UFC. We’ve seen Silva, Jones and GSP all showing their vulnerability this year,” he says.

Tickets for UFC FIGHT NIGHT LONDON: GUSTAFSSON vs. MANUWA at The O2 on Saturday 8th March 2014 will go on sale to the public on 31st January 2014 at 10am.

Ticket prices range from £40 right to up to £850 for what is billed as “the UFC VIP Experience.”
