UFC 169 Salaries: Overeem tops earners list

The official salaries for UFC 169 have been released, and they are causing consternation.

Fans are in outcry over title challenger Ricardo Lamas being on a $10,000/$10,000 deal, and champion Renan Barao apparently being on $22,000/$22,000.

However, UFC payments to fighters are a murky area, with the existence of off-the-books ‘locker room bonuses’ a well-known way of keeping fighter pay higher than officially reported, so that the tax man can’t get at it.

The simple fact is, we don’t know how much these figures represent take-home pay.

That said, Alistair Overeem’s remuneration is particularly handsome. We can’t imagine he was paid any bonuses afterwards, judging by Dana White slamming his performance as ‘crappy’.

Alistair Overeem: $407,143 ($285,714 to show, $121,429 win bonus)
