MMA News: Gomez focussed on CageWarriors USA title
July 2nd 2008

EliteXC veteran Mikey Gomez has his sights set on the CageWarriors USA welterweight title after an impressive win at the weekend.

The Florida native scored an emphatic victory in his Xtreme Fighting Championships bout on Saturday 28th June, obliterating his opponent Antonio Grant in just 27 seconds.

It was a return to form for Gomez, who had a five fight winning streak in 2006 that included submission victories over Matt Brown and Jeremy May, both of whom recently appeared on series seven of The Ultimate Fighter.

Following the win, Gomez announced that he was looking to carry his momentum into his CageWarriors USA title fight, which takes place on August 23rd at the University of Central Florida Arena.

“I am happy about the win, I had a plan and I implemented it, but my focus is on the Cage Warriors USA title fight,” he said.

“Everyone in Florida should come see this fight!”

CageWarriors is a successful British promotion that recently expanded into the US.

Michael Bisping and Dan Hardy, both currently in the UFC, have fought for CageWarriors.

And EliteXC athete Paul Daley will be fighting for the UK arm of the promotion in Nottingham on July 12th.
