Italy-based Tunisian Wisem Hammami made history at UAE Warriors 27 by becoming the promotions first ever UAEW Africa champion after a second-round finish on Yas Island.

Hammami finished Morocco’s Badreddine Diani with elbows and punches in the closing seconds of the second round to capture the inaugural UAE Warriors Africa welterweight title as the promotion kicked off the first leg of its Abu Dhabi triple-header.

The event, the latest in the promotion’s Africa series, continued the promotion’s aim of showcasing fighters of African heritage, with a tangible goal for them to reach – a bespoke UAE Warriors Africa championship.

The event featured athletes from 13 African nations, and delivered a feast of finishes, including a highlight-reel knockout from heavyweight Khaled Jashell Ticha Awa, who made a big impression on his professional MMA debut.
