Apart from when UFC champion Cris “Cyborg” is fighting, the women’s featherweight division doesn’t get a whole load of attention.

That will change on June 9th when the UFC returns to Chicago. Former women’s bantamweight queen Holly Holm faces ex-Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson at UFC 225 in a fight which looks set to determine Cyborg’s next title challenger.

The news was confirmed by MMAFighting after initial reports from the Chicago Tribune.

Holm’s last Octagon outing saw her face Cyborg for her belt at UFC 219 in December, coming up short in a unanimous decision loss.

Meanwhile, Anderson is yet to have made her UFC debut. The Australian was set to face Cyborg in summer 2017 but pulled out of her bout slated for UFC 214 due to undisclosed personal issues.

Anderson’s last fight saw her become an undisputed Invicta FC featherweight champion after scoring a TKO victory over Charmaine Tweet well over a year ago.

This fight is the latest in a number of marquee match-ups scheduled for UFC 225. At present, the event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero, as well as an interim welterweight championship fight pitting Rafael dos Anjos against Colby Covington.

Chicago’s favourite son CM Punk is also expected to make his return to the cage against Mike Jackson at UFC 225.
