Kamaru Usman will be looking to make the third defence of his UFC welterweight title against Gilbert Burns next month at UFC 258.

The promotion made things official yesterday, announcing the championship fight on the live broadcast for UFC on ESPN 20 after weeks of rumours surrounding that matchup being made.

UFC 258 is set to take place on 13 February at UFC APEX in Las Vegas and it’s the third time this fight has been scheduled.

Usman and Burns were teammates at Blackzilians MMA and Sanford MMA before Usman left the team to train with Trevor Wittman after Burns emerged as a contender.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” is on a 16-fight streak of victories, having not lost a fight since 2013, and has looked in imperious form since dethroning Tyron Woodley as champion in 2019.

Usman has since defended his championship against rivals Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

Burns, meanwhile, has looked his very best since moving back up to welterweight and the decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner dominated Woodley in his last outing in the Octagon to earn him his title fight.
