The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung, knocks out Frankie Edgar in first round
Chan Sung Jung, better know as “The Korean Zombie”, looked better than ever in his homeland as he eased to a first-round TKO victory over former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC Busan.
In one of the first striking exchanges, Jung wobbled Edgar with a left hook before knocking him down with another as he patiently looked for an opening to finish the fight.
From there, The Korean Zombie swarmed Edgar with ground and pound and took Edgar’s back as he rolled over and flattened out.
New Jersey native Edgar somehow survived the onslaught and eventually found his way back to his feet.
However, Jung was unrelenting in his desires to finish the fight.
The Korean Zombie seemed to land everything he threw with pinpoint accuracy in the striking exchanges, and before you knew it, Edgar was in trouble again as Jung landed a string of punches.
As Edgar was downed again, Jung followed up with a number of punches and forced referee Marc Goddard to call the fight to an overdue halt.
Impressive performance from Jung, who took on a last-minute, highly-regarded former champion and earned perhaps the biggest win of his career in doing so.
The Korean wants newly-crowned UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski next and he may have done enough to warrant a second crack at the title.
Volkan Oezdemir gets split decision nod over Aleksandar Rakic
In the co-main event, two heavy-hitting European light heavyweights took to the cage.
The contest between Volkan Oezdemir and Aleksandar Rakic was a back-and-forth scrap.
As you can see in the image above, Oezdemir’s best work came in chewing up Rakic’s lead leg with kicks – creating a welt on his shin which looked like a second knee.
Rakic showed a lot of grit to fight on and remain competitive throughout their battle, but two of three judges scored the fight in Swiss kickboxer Oezdemir’s favour over three rounds.
