Leon Edwards takes tight unanimous decision over Donald Cerrone

In a five-round war, Birmingham’s Leon Edwards took home an important win over UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a closely-scored unanimous decision.

Edwards started the fight well, mixing up his strikes with punches and kicks to the legs and body. The opening stanza also saw Edwards score a big knee in the clinch which sliced open Cowboy’s right eyebrow.

Cowboy is renowned for coming on strong as the fight develops in its later stages and his performance at UFC Singapore was no different.

Cerrone came off worse in the opening two rounds, but stayed competitive in the fight to make the third round one which could have easily been scored either way.

Showing his veteran Octagon savvy, Cerrone was the forward force in the latter rounds, looking fresh as a daisy despite the blood leaking from around his right eye.

Edwards, who had never fought beyond three rounds in the cage before Saturday, also looked to be in good condition as the pair continued to trade heavy strikes in the latter stages of a 25-minute brawl.

But it was Edwards who got the unanimous nod from the judges, who scored the contest 48-47 in his favour.

Ovince Saint Preux survives early Tyson Pedro onslaught to earn submission win

Ovince Saint Preux withstood some heavy pressure and punishment from Aussie Tyson Pedro to take the win in a short, fun fight.

Pedro took the fight straight to “OSP” landing some solid strikes punctuated with a question mark kick which glanced off the Haitian-American’s head. OSP appeared dazed as Pedro continued the onslaught, but survived long enough to take the fight to the ground.

Almost immediately, OSP honed in on Pedro’s arm, grabbing it with both hands looking for a kimura submission. As Pedro looked to work an escape, Saint Preux adjusted his opponent’s arm to lock in a straight armbar which forces prospect Pedro to tap.

A big win in an entertaining back-and-forth contest for OSP as he looks to get back up the rankings at light heavyweight.

Jessica Eye looks at home as a flyweight, gets judges’ nod over Jessica-Rose Clark

Jessica Eye has long campaigned for a women’s flyweight division as she previously fought – and struggled – as an undersized bantamweight.

And judging by her performance on Saturday, you can see why Eye was so insistent on fight at 125lbs.

Eye dominated her three-round contest against Australia’s Jessica-Rose Clark, getting the better of her foe on the feet and in the clinch as the bigger fighter in the Octagon.

Aggressive throughout, Eye comfortably took the judges’ decision over Clark who remained competitive throughout, but seemingly didn’t have an answer for her opponent’s forward movement.

This is Eye’s second win on the bounce since returning to flyweight, following her split decision victory over Kalindra Faria in January.
