The eagerly anticipated fight between Yair Rodriguez and Zabit Nurmagomedov has been put on ice for a second time.

Rodriguez is said to have suffered an ankle injury and has been forced to withdraw from the bout.

The pair were slated to headline the main event at the upcoming UFC event on 29 August at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news at a post-fight media scrum after week one of Dana White’s Contender Series on Tuesday night.

“He’s got a high ankle sprain and a fracture, so he’s out,” White said at the time.

White later confirmed that the UFC is working on finding a replacement opponent for Magomedsharipov.

The pair were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 228 in 2018, but Mexico’s Rodriguez again suffered an injury which saw him withdraw from the contest.
