Following his one-year suspension by USADA, the UFC has stripped Jon Jones of his interim light heavyweight championship.

On Monday, Jon Jones learned his fate from USADA and was slapped with a ban for his failed drug test just prior to UFC 200. That suspension is retroactive to July 7th of this year.

Although he’s still due to face the Nevada State Athletic Commission, he’s already received the second piece of bad news this week – the UFC has stripped him of his interim light heavyweight title.

Speaking on ESPN’s 5ive Rounds podcast, UFC president Dana White spoke of his disappointment in Jones, who many still believe to be the greatest of all time.

“It doesn’t make sense,” White said. “He was the interim champion because he should have been fighting for the title (at UFC 197). We gave him this, ‘You were supposed to fight for the title, here it is.’ It doesn’t make sense with all the stuff that is going on for him to still be the interim champion.”

Jon Jones has been stripped of the title before. Just last year the UFC took the undisputed strap away from him after he was involved in a hit and run accident and then subsequently charged.

It appears things are just going from bad to worse for Jones and Dana White gave a scathing summary on the former 205lb champion.

“Jon Jones has blown it in every way shape and form a guy with that much talent can blow it,” White said. “Greatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever.”
