Whenever you see a fighter’s eye completely close through swelling, you fear they may have picked up an injury as bad as a fractured orbital.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone lost his bout to Tony Ferguson at UFC 238 on Saturday by TKO after his right eye ballooned to the point of no return as a result of him blowing his nose ahead of the third round. With his vision greatly hindered, the cageside doctor called the fight off in between rounds.

Even UFC President Dana White thought Cerrone had a fractured orbital and said as much in the UFC 238 post-fight press conference.

But there’s good news for Cerrone, who took to Instagram to share that there was nothing serious behind his injury.

“I’m in good health. Thanks for all the messages and concerns,” he began.

“Only air was in my eye. No broken bones nor cracked or broken orbital. Sitting and waiting for the rematch or next fight.”

Cerrone’s loss to Ferguson snapped a three-fight winning run which saw him defeat Mike Perry at welterweight, before heading back down to lightweight and defeat Alexander Hernandez and Al Iaquinta on his way to being mentioned in the UFC lightweight title picture.

We wish you a speedy recover, Cowboy!
