South Korea’s Chan Sung Jung wants a top opponent after reinserting himself in the UFC featherweight title picture with a stunning first-round knockout win over top contender Renato Moicano last weekend.
It was what the “Korean Zombie” needed following a tough loss to Yair Rodriguez at the end of 2018.
“I definitely forgot about that,” Jung’s coach and translator, Eddie Cha, said on Jung’s behalf when talking of the Rodriguez loss. [H/T Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie]. “But as a fighter, it definitely helps when you’re on a winning streak, as opposed to a losing streak.”
Now reinvigorated and back in the reckoning in his search for a UFC title, Jung wants another top name to fight to get a second chance at winning gold.
“Probably 4, 3, 2 and 1,” Cha said, referring to the fighter rankings Jung is looking at as future opponents.
“We talked about it, but we don’t want to look ahead. I think anybody higher-ranked than he is, we’re one step closer to that goal.”
A big fan favourite who headlined his fifth consecutive UFC event on Saturday, Jung himself is expected to make a jump in the rankings following his win over Moicano.
