Former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones was arrested yesterday for allegedly violating his probation in a drag racing incident last week. The news was first reported by TMZ.

Jones was ticketed last Thursday, March 24th, for drag racing by an Albuquerque Police Department officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. If proven guilty, the incident will violate the terms of his probation, which he is serving for a hit-and-run incident which took place last year.

In an interview earlier this week, Jones claimed he was innocent in this instance.

In an official statement, the UFC said: “UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week. UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.”

Jones is scheduled to meet Daniel Cormier in a rematch for the light heavyweight title at UFC 197 on April 23rd. It is unclear at this stage how Jones’ latest arrest will affect this scheduled bout.
