Tyron Woodley will be swinging his way into theatres worldwide next summer. The newly minted UFC welterweight champion has landed a role in the latest Spiderman movie, called ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’, which is currently in production by Marvel Studios.

Woodley revealed his involvement on The MMA Hour yesterday, and revealed he joins the production this Thursday in Atlanta, Georgia. This is where filming is currently underway on second reboot of the blockbuster web slinging franchise.

No stranger to a film set, over the course of the last 18 months, during a period when Woodley was inactive from the Octagon, he made the most of his silver screen opportunities, landing roles in acclaimed hit ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and Bollywood smash ‘Sultan’.

It’s hard to say how long filming will last and anything right now would be mere speculation as his exact role is unknown, but should things fall in place for a Nick Diaz fight on August 20th at UFC 202, which is just less than three weeks away, this acting gig may become problematic.

It’s far more realistic to think Woodley will defend his welterweight championship later this year and coming off a $340,000 pay cheque, the fight game is where he is going to make the most money for the foreseeable future at least.

Interesting to note that the new Spiderman himself, Tom Holland, was in attendance at UFC 201 and witnessed Woodley realise his life long dream of becoming a UFC champion.

Marvel and MMA have some history with another UFC welterweight. Back in 2014 Georges Saint-Pierre had a small role in ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’. And with the WME-IMG takeover at the UFC currently being rubber stamped it’ll be interesting to see how they decide to juggle Woodley’s Octagon skills with his silver screen persona.

Spiderman: Homecoming, meanwhile, is scheduled for worldwide release on July 7th 2017.
