It looks like Conor McGregor will be heading back down to 145lb after losing to Nate Diaz at 170lb just days ago. And former lightweight champ and top featherweight contender Frankie Edgar will be waiting anxiously for the next shot at Conor’s title.
“I’m assuming he has no other choice but to come back down and defend his featherweight title and I’m waiting for him,” Edgar said on the Fox Sports post-fight show.
Along with Edgar, former 145lb champ Jose Aldo is another favorite for the next crack at McGregor’s belt. However, McGregor and Aldo have already met once before – at UFC 194 last December – with Conor getting the quick KO win to capture the belt, and Edgar feels a fresh challenge for the Irish champ is in order.
“I know Aldo is vying for the rematch. He had his chance,” said Edgar. “Conor beat Aldo in 13 seconds. I’m coming for it and I’m getting my belt. There’s an unknown with me. I’m going to be bothering these guys. I want this fight.”
UFC president Dana White has said Edgar and Aldo are the two top candidates for McGregor’s next fight, but no decision has been made at this stage.
